Do you have technical expertise in environmental and social safeguards and want to be a part of creating a future where people live in harmony with nature?

WWF, one of the world's largest environmental organizations, works to stop the destruction of the world's nature and ecosystems - and to create a future where people live in harmony with nature. WWF is knowledge-based and works purposefully to create solutions to some of the world's biggest environmental and nature challenges.

We are looking for an advisor or senior advisor (depending on experience) with knowledge of and practical experience in environmental and social safeguards to join our team and contribute to the equitable, sustainable and effective implementation of our programme work through adherence to the WWF Environmental and Social Safeguard Framework (ESSF). This position is shared across WWF-Norway and WWF-Sweden.

Key tasks will be to

  • support our partner WWF offices to implement the ESSF in WWF-Norway / Sweden funded programmes in Africa, Latin America and Asia, providing technical support to ESSF focal points in those WWF offices.
  • follow up ESSF processes in the WWF network
  • coordinate and share lessons learned and best practices among partners, the network and the two WWF offices.
  • provide training and guidance to WWF-Norway and WWF-Sweden advisors on the ESSF.
  • participate in review of partner ESSF risk screenings and development of appropriate mitigation plans for WWF-Norway and WWF-Sweden funded programmes, follow up to ensure these are being adhered to and that adequate budget and capacity is allocated to this in programme plans.
  • provide technical expertise on ESSF to WWF Sweden and Norway, and our partner offices on the ESSF planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting.

Our ideal candidate has

  • minimum three years' experience working specifically with environmental and social safeguards.
  • a master’s degree in development studies, human rights, human rights based approaches to conservation, environment, or another related field.
  • experience of working with partners in developing countries in conservation or related development.
  • knowledge of policy and debates on human rights in conservation.
  • practical experience of supporting others, providing guidance and ensuring accountability.
  • ability to work independently and deliver high quality results on time.
  • ability to travel when necessary and in line with WWF's travel and emissions policy.
  • very good English skills and working knowledge of Norwegian and Swedish.

We offer

  • an opportunity to make a real difference in a knowledge based and respected environmental organization.
  • 37,5 hours working week with flexible hours and paid lunchbreak.
  • central office space in Oslo and flexible working-from-home solutions.
  • highly competent and dedicated colleagues in an inclusive and friendly working environment.

The position will be placed in Oslo and report to the leader of our Cross-cutting Conservation Team in Norway. You will also work closely with the Deputy CEO and Leadership Team and with colleagues at the WWF offices in Norway, Sweden and in the global WWF network.
