Fingo, Forum for utvikling og miljø and Globalt Fokus warmly invite you to an online discussion on Reimagining Global Solidarity: The Role of Nordic Development Organisations in a Shifting Global Landscape. We will hear about new research criticising the localisation agenda for leaving power in northern hands. We will reflect on the main issues impacting the work of development organisations in Nordic countries particularly from the perspective of solidarity and legitimacy.

Background

The environment in which Nordic organisations advance sustainable development and a fair transition is in upheaval. At the same time, there is an intensifying demand for more equal partnerships and shifting power. Dr. Margit van Wessel, an Associate Professor in at Wageningen University (WUR) in the Netherlands, has over 20 years’ experience in researching civil society advocacy. Currently her work looks at different forms of solidarity.

Combined with a consideration of the changing operating environment in different Nordic countries, Dr. van Wessel’s presentation will provide a backdrop for discussing the meaning of solidarity for Nordic civil society organisations and their work.
