Rainforest Foundation Norway seeks an experienced grants manager for the Peru and Colombia program based in Oslo

Rainforest Foundation Norway (RFN) is one of Europe’s leading organisations in the work to protect the world’s rainforests and strengthen the rights of indigenous peoples, in cooperation with indigenous and environmental organisations in Southeast Asia, Central Africa and the Amazon. Over the course of more than two decades, RFN has steadfastly built up our engagement in the Amazon in partnership with national civil society partners. Now we aim to increase the impact of our programmes in Peru and Colombia by scaling up with a diversification of funding, advancing the organization’s capacity, and strengthening collaboration in the region. To be part of this work, we seek a grants manager with extensive knowledge about managing complex large-scale programs.

The grants manager will ensure that RFN’s country-specific donor grants are managed effectively and timely to meet donor requirements. The position is a full-time position.

Location: RFN has it`s headquarter in Oslo. The role will be based in Oslo. The position will require work across multiple time zones, extensive travel, and collaboration with colleagues in different countries.

Key responsibilities: 

  • Manage and coordinate all processes and deliverables related to the grant agreement across the country team including submitting the deliverables to the donor.
  • Be the donor’s main contact person on grant management issues and advise team leader on strategic issues (including budget issues) and decisions related to the grant.
  • Lead the country team’s annual planning and reporting processes on country-specific grant agreement in line with RFN procedures, and lead departmental projects, task forces and working groups.
  • Entail frequent external communication to advise, inform, and guide and occasionally to negotiate and influence.
  • Contribute to development of grant management tools, templates, and procedures in RFN, to continually improve the grant management processes.

Qualifications, skills and experience

  • Advanced knowledge in donor and aid - schemes acquired through higher education (normally

master) and/or relevant experience. Formal education can be compensated with documented and relevant experience.

  • Good cooperation skills and ability to negotiate with external stakeholders (donors and others).
  • In-depth understanding of results-based management systems and demonstrated ability to carry out project and program management. This includes excellent finance /budget management skills.
  • Able to work independently with limited guidance from a manager
  • Experience in multicultural and international working environment settings
  • Demonstrates experience in assessing opportunities, challenges, and stakeholders with which to engage.
  • Good facilitation skills and experience with at carrying out presentations for donors or other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability in strategic donor dialogue with years of experience contributing to establishing RFN as a strategic actor.
  • Fluency in written and verbal English is required, and a professional understanding of Spanish is required. Knowledge of Norwegian or additional rainforest country languages is an asset.
  • A conscientious and structured person with strong planning and administrative skills, including computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint).
  • Willing and able to travel in the field and work with partners when needed.
