Rainforest Foundation Norway seeks an experienced thematic advisor for the Peru and Colombia program

Rainforest Foundation Norway (RFN) is one of Europe’s leading organisations in the work to protect the world’s rainforests and strengthen the rights of indigenous peoples, in cooperation with indigenous and environmental organisations in Southeast Asia, Central Africa and the Amazon. Over the course of more than two decades, RFN has steadfastly built up our engagement in the Amazon in partnership with national civil society partners.

We are seeking a Rights-Based Rainforest Protection and Management Adviser at the Peru and Colombia program to develop and roll-out RFN country specific policy approach, priorities and plans in alignment with RFN overall strategy.

Location: RFN has its HQ in Oslo. The position will be base in Oslo or alternatively RFN may be open to the position being based on another country location. The position will require work across multiple time zones, extensive travel, and collaboration with colleagues in different countries.

Rights-Based Rainforest Protection and Management (RBR) Adviser at the Peru and Colombia program

The RBR adviser at the Peru and Colombia program is expected to enable the country team able to achieve results and generate RFN added value through rights-based rainforest protection (RBR) of large, contiguous rainforest areas.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and roll-out RFN country based RBR approach aligned with thematic priority development of RFN
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of RBR focused partnerships/projects, in line with the country(-ies) and partnership frameworks and other RFN policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to all strategic objectives within the country framework(s) and specifically deliver results and monitor achievement on strategic objectives
  • Contribute to strategic positioning and implementation of RFN work for RBR at country(-ie) level. This includes representing RFN and giving both the country team and partners strategic advice on relevant policy issues.
  • Ensure implementation of RFN’s cross-cutting policies and capacity building activities in partner portfolio.
  • Contribute to development of programs and projects in RFN, including fundraising and sharing of results.
  • Contribute to best practices and learning on relevant issues for the Department of International Programs/RFN.

Qualifications, skills and experience 

  • Advanced knowledge in policy analysis acquired through higher education (normally a master's degree) and/or relevant experience. Formal education can be compensated with documented and relevant experience.  
  • A self-starter, capable of working autonomously or collaboratively within a multicultural team with limited guidance from a manager.  
  • Language and communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish. Knowledge of Norwegian or additional rainforest country languages is an asset.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal and analytical skills with problem-solving ability and demonstrates experience in assessing opportunities, challenges, and stakeholders with which to engage.
